PLAST - CHICAGO Celebrates 20th Annual Golf Classic & Luau

ROUND LAKE PARK, IL – Golfers from across the nation gathered on a cool Indian Summer morning Saturday September 8th, 2018, for the very popular and highly anticipated  Plast–Chicago Open Charity Golf Classic, held at the Renwood Golf Course in Round Lake Beach, Illinois, the same location where the inaugural Plast-Chicago Golf Outing kicked off 20 years ago.  For the last two decades over a thousand participants have been coming from all corners of the USA, including:  California, Colorado, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia/Washington D.C., and Florida, to take part in this very successful and well–attended charity golf tournament and festivities hosted by the Chicago-based Plast Pobratymy fraternity. 

Using a team scramble format to engage the 60 men and women golfers, this outing provided an opportunity for participants to enjoy friendly competition and great camaraderie surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings.  The fun continued with the customary post–golf reception, banquet and festivities held at the nearby Ukrainian Youth Camping Organization’s (UYCO) “Oselia” Plast campground, held outdoors and lakeside under the beautiful evening skies, with a lavish traditional Hawaiian Luau and Pig Roast dinner, along with music and dancing.  Many friends and families from the Chicagoland community joined in these festivities and afterwards the award winners were announced.

The “Lowest Score” tournament was won by: (tie) team of - Denys Pileckyj, Andrij Rud, Markian Dziuk, Marko Iwanik, and the team of - Roman Mycyk, Mary Mycyk, Tyler Hall, George Kuritza. The Men’s and Women’s “Longest Drive” competitions were won by: Tyler Hall (305 yds.)and Mary Mycyk (220 yds.), while the Men’s and Women’s “Closest To The Pin” contest by:  Markian Dziuk and Mary Mycyk.   The “Putting Contest” was won by: (tie) Yuriy Striltschuk and Ivac Derkach.  Winning the 50/50 Charity Raffle was Marijka Dykun – who promptly donated back all the winning proceeds.

As usual, 100% of the proceeds from this year’s event will provide continued financial support for Plast and The Pobratymy Foundation, a not–for–profit 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt corporation, established in 1992, by members of the Plast Pobratymy fraternity.  Over the past 26 years, the foundation has raised over $ 300,000 to further the principles of Plast and Ukrainian scouting to Plast chapters in USA, Canada, Germany and Ukraine.

53rd Rada

BARABOO, Wis. –The Pobratymy fraternity of Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization gathered on the weekend of September 28-30, 2018 at the Ukrainian American Youth Association campground Beskyd near Baraboo, Wis., for their 53rd meeting (“Rada”). The attendees from throughout the United States included twenty full members, one candidate for membership, and six additional scouts who were interested in learning more about the fraternity and its activities.

The brisk autumn weather did not discourage participants from engaging in the pre-Rada activities that included canoeing down the Wisconsin River and golf at a nearby country club. Friday evening, while dining on Chicago-style Italian beef sandwiches on the veranda, members and prospective candidates shared stories, anecdotes, and updates on their family and professional life over the past year. They rekindled old friendships and welcomed the next generation of scouts who share the Pobratymy mission of promoting the ideals of Ukrainian scouting.

The formal meeting included a review of the past year’s activities, updating of the bylaws, the acceptance of new members, election of new leadership, and development of a work plan for the coming year. The Rada also included a meeting of the Pobratymy Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) charitable foundation that since its inception in 1992 has donated well over $100,000 to Plast causes worldwide. This year’s donations were targeted for infrastructure improvements at Plast camps in Chicago and Buffalo and stipends for campers and counselors in Seattle. As in previous years, the Board of the Foundation also decided to donate in support of the U.S. Plast “HPB” fund for the expansion of Plast programs in southern and eastern Ukraine. The Saturday evening festivities included a traditional campfire and celebration of Pobratymy traditions, songs, and humorous sketches.

Members of Pobratymy are active in Plast and Ukrainian community organizations in Chicago, Toronto, Philadelphia, Ohio, New Jersey, and Denver. For over 50 years, the Pobratymy have assisted in preparing Ukrainian youth for life by upholding the ideals of scouting. На вічній Ватрі

ЖАЛІБНІ СЛОВА ПРО СІРКА

“Я Побратим - мені вільно думати самому про себе, І будувати життя самостійно...”
Отакими словами ми знали Доктора Ярослава Слюсаренка -- нашого Сірка.

Сірко не ішов “за кимсь, ні перед кимсь,
Лиш сміло і свобідно поруч друзів своїх,
Як близький, рідний Побратим.»

Знайдім Сірка в давнині нашого куреня, ще на початках, коли ми, його ровесники, були запаленими молодцями.  Наші Пробратими зі сходу до нас на раду привели нам досі незнаного, молодого кандидата, Ярослава.  Зразу він справив на нас добре враження своєю щирою життєрадістю, а ще, по його лиці, вільно забігала вільна усмішка на вустах та очах.  Айк, коли задивився на його довгі вуса, і ніби то чуприну, то гукнув, «оце козак Сірко поміж нами». 

Від тоді Сірко таки був із нами та при кожній зустрічі обдаровував нас теплою усмішкою, а на ватрах, бавив нас веселеми, і часом пекельними усмішками.  

Сірко вмів погасити усмішку на серіозно, здобувше докторську освіту, могії інвестеційні успіхи, та вдячність багатьох терплячих душ за його вміле лікування.  Незадовго після того коли переселився до Чікаґо, він одружився із пригарною молодицею, Іреною, та іхне супружжа було обдароване трьома милими доньками, відтак і многими онуками.  У тім всім, Сірко завжди остався благородним і вірним другом багатьом із поміж присутних.

Сірко любив природу і старався бувати серед неї, чи то на ловах і риболовлі, і кінець в кінці на свої власній фармі.  Але, його мрію про подорож на Аласку таки не дождав.

 Cірку!  Побратиме наш!  Тебе Всевишний взяв у засвіти, але не з наших серцях.    

На раді, при ватрі, коли відчуємо спільне тепло і спокій душі, ти будеш з нами,
Та зaлишишся на завжди в крузі Приславних Побратимів..    

Дорога родино!  Знаємо, що ми не всилі втихомирити Вашу болючу розлуку по втраті Вашого мужа, батька, діда, але просимо прийняти від нас пластунів, пластунок і Побратимів слова глибокого, щирого співчуття.

Посвячення Прапора Куреня УПС Побратими

Благословення Бога, прославленого у Святій Тройці, Отця (+), і Сина (+), і Святого Духа.(+) покропленням цією свяченою водою нехай зійде і перебуває на цьому прапорі й на тих, що будуть носити його для захисту й оборони Христової правди, свого українського народу і пластового куреня «Побратимів». 

Будьте мужні, нехай кріпиться серце ваше, перемагайте ворогів видимих і невидимих, маючи надію на Господа. Прийміть цей прапор мужності і спільної пpaцi разом з оцим благословенням, щоб ви під цим прапором твердо стояли з набожністю, вірністю і щирою любов’ю один до одного, щоб кожен з вас був гідний зватись дитиною Божою, сином українського народу і членом пластового куреня «Побратимів», молитвами Владичиці нашої Богородиці і всіх святих.
